Day 2
10:00 a.m.
Paris, France

I've made it about halfway.  I'm ready to be there!  My first impression of Paris is that it's very nice.  Of course, all I get to see is the airport...it's morning here, so even though it's way past my bedtime back home, I'm wide awake.  I hope I can relieve some of the travel boredom of the second half of the trip through sleep.  I don't think I'll be up for work even though that sustained me during the first 12 hours of the trip.  Study scripts, read-up on animals I might find, browse magazines, professional and otherwise -- all done.   Come on Africa - only another 12 hours or so!

4:00 p.m.
Duala

As I look out the airplane window at my first glimpse of true Africa it seems...right.  Through the misty clouds there is deep green forest and winding rivers covering the landscape.

6:15 p.m.
Duala

After making it through customs, ticketing, luggage check and security, my adventure has really just begun as I board the flight to Bangui, Central Africa Republic (CAR).

Jim and Peter were already on the plane when I boarded.  Because we had not communicated in more than a week (they were in South Africa) none of us were 100% sure that the others would be there.  I felt elated and very relieved to see them.  Jim is Jim Miller, former SeaWorld San Diego entertainment director, now independent television producer. Peter Brown is a film documentarian.

Bangui

After landing in Bangui, we agreed to a cab ride, loaded the cab ourselves to make sure no gear got left behind, climbed in on top of each other and the luggage, which was stuffed in every possible inch and made a run for the hotel.

3:00 a.m.
Bangui

It's 3:00 a.m. and I've tried reading, watching television, staring at the ceiling, thinking about Africa, not thinking about Africa, and now writing in my journal in order to fall asleep...
