DAY TWO - BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA

Noon
After flying all night and the next morning we arrive in Buenos Aires, Argentina for a quick refueling and then back into the air.

3:30 PM - Ushuaia, Argentina
It is about mid-afternoon and we have arrived at the 'Southernmost City in the World' - Ushuaia, Argentina. Even though we are almost at the tip of Argentina the weather is still quite comfortable with a temperature of around 59°F. Definitely shorts weather! After collecting all of our gear we board the Marco Polo to prepare for our journey. The ship was built in 1965 in the old East Germany shipyards and was originally called the Alexander Puskin. It's original duty was as a Soviet ice breaker. After it was retired in 1990 it was refitted for Antarctic journeys. I have unloaded my gear in my cabin, set up the camera batteries in their chargers, and am off to a meeting with the crew.

10:30 PM - Beagle Channel
After the meeting and dinner I spend some time up on deck as we traverse the Beagle channel which separates Argentina from Chile. Being this far from the Equator it is still light out. I am able to see a number of black-browed albatross following the ship along with a few sooty shearwaters. They all seem to be wishing us a safe voyage.
