A Face a Mother, and Pretty Much Everyone Else, Can Love
San Diego, CA (July 28, 2005)
Meet Bocce, an orphaned walrus calf rescued from Kivalina, Alaska last month. Found on a Chukchi Sea beach, the 100-pound baby walrus was flown to the Alaska SeaLife Center in Seward where she was found to be mildly dehydrated. Since officials knew she would be unable to survive on her own, they decided to send her here, to SeaWorld San Diego. Today Bocce weighs more than 120 pounds and measures about five feet in length. She is bottle fed by the Wild Arctic team, who also provide her companionship, and some pool and play time. It is hoped that Bocce may soon be introduced to Tessa, our previously rescued walrus pup, and eventually the other walrus at Wild Arctic.
