San Diego Wetlands

Wetlands are one of the most threatened natural resources on earth. Next to tropical rain forests and coral reefs, wetlands are the most rapidly vanishing habitat. And unfortunately, because wetlands don’t have the advantage of being beautiful or colorful by traditional standards, or support high-profile species, they don’t receive nearly the media attention as the other two habitats. And yet the ecological and economical importance of wetlands is incredible.

California has lost 91% of its historical wetlands—more than any other state in the U.S. If we are to save the few precious acres that remain, the first step is education.

This wetlands resource guide focuses entirely on the wetland areas within San Diego County. We created this guide because, while there are many wonderful wetlands resources available, resources that are specific to the San Diego area are very limited.
