What happens to an ill, injured, or orphaned wild bird, turtle, or marine mammal? If it's lucky, it is rescued and cared for by animal care experts and veterinarians at SeaWorld or Busch Gardens. In this month's Land, Sea, & Air you and your class can learn how SeaWorld and Busch Gardens rescue, rehabilitate, and whenever possible release injured, ill, or orphaned wildlife. |

Much of the world's trash ends up in the ocean and can harm marine animals. About 80% of debris in the ocean comes from land sources. Even most litter left on land eventually washes into the ocean through watersheds. Some sea turtles eat jellyfish and confuse plastic bags or even brightly colored balloons for their prey. Whales and other animals may mistake plastic bags for squid. And birds accidentally ingest plastic pellets (used to manufacture plastics) thinking they are fish eggs. |
| |
You and your class can discover how much trash people produce and ways to minimize debris in ocean ecosystems through the following activities. |
