Most Pine trees generally grow quite large
and require room to spread. Occasional pruning to open and shape should be done in the
winter or late fall months when sap flow has slowed. Pine needles should be left as mulch
around the base of the tree. The natural tree litter encourages a rich ecosystem for the
tree roots. Pine needles are acidic and will also enhance the soil environment for other
acid loving plants like azaleas and camellias. All three of these kinds of plant like
evenly moist soil and good drainage to flourish.
