| Sand Dune Garden On
the southwesterly part of the Rocky Point Preserve we have established plants from a
Pacific coastal environment.
Those plants that are wind and salt-tolerant such as the spiny-headed mat-rush, (Lomandra
longifolia), ravenna grass (Erianthus ravennae), blue wild rye (Elymus
glaucus), species of erigeron, rosemary, haplopappus, the strawberry tree (Arbutus
sp.) and eryngium are prospering.
Rainbow Garden
In another area of the Rocky Point Preserve attraction, a Rainbow Garden has been
planted in an arc around a large lawn. Here, plants, mostly perennial, replicate the
colors of a rainbow.
Plants here include the pincushion flower ( Scabiosa sp.)
in different colors, the various ajugas in bronze tones, daylilies
representing the yellow and orange spectrums, the globe thistle
(Echinops ritro .) Coreopsis 'Zagreb', cultivars of roses,
cannas and salvias. Together these plants create a rainbow effect.
