Keys to the Future

"What can I do?" you ask. A lot! You might think that just one person (like yourself) couldn't possibly save a species, beautify a beach or conserve a creature. But wherever you live, all it takes are some simple steps to get started...

  1. Place trash where it belongs. Never throw it in the water. Animals in the ocean can be harmed if they ingest or become entangled in debris.
  2. Know the difference between exotic (non-native) plants and native plants. Wherever and whenever possible, remove exotics and replace with native species. Either you or a parent can contact your local county extension service for identification information.
  3. When visiting beaches, avoid disturbing nesting turtles by not making noise or shining lights.
  4. If you fish, fish responsibly. Remember that many fish species are suffering from overfishing. Despose of fishing line properly.
  5. Avoid buying wildlife products like coral or shark teeth.
  6. Never dump motor oil, paints or chemicals in gutters, storm drains or sinks. These all eventually lead to the ocean. For information on nearby oil recycling sites in the U.S., call 1-800-741-4337.
  7. Water is precious...don't waste it. Whenever you're not using it, turn it off!
  8. Reduce. Reuse. Recycle.

Can you think of other ways to help the environment?

The Anheuser-Busch Theme Parks invite you and your school group or club to enter the 1997 A Pledge and a Promise Environmental Awards program. These annual awards honor the outstanding efforts of school groups, clubs and organizations that have made lasting contributions to the environment. For more information, call (407) 363-2389.
