size:  shoulder height ranges from 64 to 76 cm (25-30 in.)

habitat:  primarily pinelands and tropical hardwood hammocks

diet:  woody plants and fruits

status:  endangered

key facts:  Currently, there are about 250-300 key deer, up from an estimated 25-80 in 1951. Threats to their survival include loss of habitat and of freshwater sources.
