WILD ARCTIC FUN GUIDE
Arctic Explorers - Activity

The harsh cold. The freezing winds. Who would dare travel to the northernmost place on Earth? Will Steger is one. A legendary polar exploreer and educator, Will Steger's knowledge of the Arctic is awesome. He put it to the test by trekking across the Arctic along with a team of four men and two women.

Their goal was to cross more than 3,218 km (2,000 mi.) of the Arctic with both dogsleds and specially-designed canoe-sleds. During their trip they transmitted their position and research observations to a base station. Their reports went into the Internet network. Will Steger's team studied the following:

  • weather conditions
  • the health of the explorers' dogs
  • the effects of pollution
  • wildlife

Now you're ready to go on an exploration! Use the map and complete the chart below to to figure out how you would get to and from different locations - by dogsled, canoe-sled, or both!
