Dear Paula, Thank you for writing with your question about eagles. In the United States, the bald eagle is respected because it is the symbol of our country. Some of its traits which made it appealing to early colonists are its large size, its strength and power, and its loyalty, since a bald eagle may keep the same mate and nesting site for many years. Although eagles are considered magnificent birds in many countries thoughout the world, there are also many people that revere other types of birds, because these beliefs are passed down as part of their cultural heritage.
